Mind Crime, Not for the weak minded "YOUR MIND IS THE SCENE OF THE CRIME"
dream-alittle-bigger.proboards.com/
This RP is based off of the movie 'Inception' written and directed (oh, and produced) by Christopher Nolan
Terms: (These are critical to understanding everything about Inception)
Mind Crime: The illegal entrance of one's dreams and extraction of thoughts/secrets/memories. Also the name of the program that is used to perform the Mind Crime. Inception is also an illegal maneuver. Mind Crime wasn't originally illegal. It was developed by the military so that recruits could experience battle to the fullest extent. That meant pain was possible, but death only stopped the dream.
Extraction: A practiced criminal method of subduing a target and entering their dreams. This is generally done carefully. A dream within a dream. They would put the Architect under, using them to build their dream to best suit the Extraction. The best suited way often was a simple maze like way. To keep Projections under control. After the Architect was under, they proceeded to, in the dream they were all in with the Architect, put themselves under once more. This time under the Mark's dream. The Extractor and the Point Man would then infiltrate the Mark's dream safe.
Inception: A commonly claimed 'impossible' criminal method. This is when the chosen Mark is wanted to think of something on their own. For them to come up with an idea on their own. While others can suggest an idea to someone (Like if I said, 'Don't think about elephants' what's the first thing you think about?) they cannot plant an idea. This is because the mind is capable of distinguishing between your own idea and someone another person's. In order for Inception to work, the idea must be broken down into the most simple form possible. If I wanted you to eat more, the idea planted could be that you like celery. The way the idea is interpreted is entirely dependent on the Mark. The Mark's own personal experience and personality will lead them to do with the idea what others may not. Maybe you like celery, but one time you had it with peanut butter and had an allergic reaction; would you be soon to eat another stick of celery? The idea is planted the same way an idea is extracted. The Team must plant the idea in the Mark's own dream safe.
Projections: The mind's white blood cells. Projections are most often people. They can be trained to fight extraction attempts, but only by a member of a Team who understands Mind Crime to the utmost level. When Projections are trained, they mercilessly attack foreign things. When left untrained, Projections are like normal people. They go about their business normally. Though, when an Architect changes the Mark's dream, they become increasingly suspicious. At first they all may stop what they're doing and look at the Team, looking for the Architect. But, they would soon come to the point of attacking the Team, once they were identified as foreign to the Mark's mind. Projections are exactly that. They are projections of one's subconscious.
The Team: The full ensemble of a Team. These people are often skilled with their practice, and rarely survive long if they are not.
The Extractor: A member of the Team. They break into the Mark's mind and find the safe that their mind places things in their dreams. Upon finding the safe, they will generally extract information from the safe. While not being able to take anything physical back, they can memorize what they are after.
The Mark: The target of the Team's Mind Crime. They are often placed under the Architect's dream. It's the Point Man's job to research the Mark's life. With the information on the Mark's life, the Architect will build their own dream to what the Mark may often see in every day life. This is usually their house. There the Point Man, Extractor and the rest of the Team unleash a series of planned events to convince the Mark to go under into their own (not knowing it will be their own often) dream. Once the Mark is under in their own dream, which the Mark's mind builds around the maze that the Architect creates, the extraction begins.
The Point Man: A member of the Team. The Point Man is in charge of researching the Mark. The Point Man is able to do the jobs of all of the other members of the Team, but he's not as skilled as they are. The Extractor and the Point Man, provided an Architect is present, are capable of performing an extraction on an untrained individual.
The Architect: A member of the Team. It's the Architect's job to create a maze in their dream. This is done to distract the Projections while the extraction takes place. The better the maze, the longer time the Extractor has to work.
The Forger: A member of the Team. The Forger learns behaviors of people close to the Mark. They are able to, in dreams, make their appearance change. They're used to trick the Mark (this is in the first dream laid- the Architect's) into wanting to use participate in a Mind Crime.
Tourist: A tag-along. Not part of the Team, but often they have something to do with the success of the extraction.
Totem: A small item that is usually carried by those who use Mind Crime. It is small enough to be kept with them at all times, and only they know the exact weight and size of it. This means they must know their Totem well. No one else can touch their Totem, for that would defeat the purpose. Totems are used to tell the owner whether or not they are in their dreams.
Rules: (If you were able to read all of that and are still interested, look here)
1. No power play, god mode etc. This will be hard to do as we'll be working in dreams, but we're not against each other. That should make it a little easier to not power play
2. Be active. If you're not active within three days without reason, your character will be deleted and someone else may claim that spot
3. Keep the swearing to first letter and asterisk
4. No machine-gunning (5 posts per person)
5. Be polite
6. Three paragraphs (7 well-formed sentences) per post please
7. Keep OoC to a minimum, use double parentheses if you must talk
8. Each job will last for three days in real life
9. Only I can time-skip, and I can control the dream. If you make yourself too obvious, I will send Projections after you
10. PM me your forms and politely harass me in a joking manner until I edit the second post with your accepted app (if it hasn't been added within two days of your role playing in this RP)
11. By the way, only Projections can power play. Mainly because if they mob you, you're in trouble

Hey there, diary. I hate making these things. I always get bored and give up. It's really not all that fun to look back and read anyway. But, I suppose I'll have to. At least for now. Things are hard to keep track of without one. So, this is going to be kind of like a, what's the word, note book at the same time as a diary. Bear with me you thick pad of paper. I'll be a bit scattered, but as long as I understand it, that's all that matters.
Two weeks ago I was offered a job. It was an interesting one. The military wanted me. They said that they needed someone with my skills. I asked what they meant, and they handed me a pad of paper. They said, "Make a maze in two minutes that can't be solved in one." I thought for a moment on the maze. Looking at the paper, I realized it was graphing paper. I took the pen and created a simple maze. It followed the lines of the graph and they took it. They finished it quickly and had me do it again. This went on for about ten times before I got frustrated. I, this time, drew a circle and made a maze out of the circle. They didn't even take the time to finish it and said that I passed.
Now, by that time I was utterly confused, but I kept my mouth shut as they explained things. They had created a machine sort of thing. It was strange. Apparently, they said that they could control dreams with it. They wanted to use it to make a soldier's training experience three times more effective. To give them the feeling of pain. I was horrified. They asked me if I would help. I declined eventually, but not before I witnessed this myself. It was terrific. They put me under with two operatives and this dream began. They explained everything then. The only ways to wake up were from Kicks. Kicks could easily be described as a surprise. The falling sensation, maybe being killed in your dream. To demonstrate, they shot one of the operatives in the foot. The man crumpled to the ground in agony as the other explained that when we woke up he would still be fine. That pain was all in the mind.
That was when I declined, but not before they showed me how to wake up. An operative created a cliff. He threw me off of it and said that, since it was my dream, he would see me when I hit the bottom. I woke up, fine. The other man, who'd been shot was perfectly fine. They offered to give me a week's time to decide. I graciously declined the next day. But, I couldn't stay away. It was like an addiction. I needed to dream again. To be able to create entire worlds by thinking about it. They accepted me back, with almost a knowledge that I would come back. I was disturbed, but I couldn't stop. I needed to dream more, I had to. And so, I created worlds. Battle simulations. The soldiers felt the pain. They saw the jungles. They were hunted by their prey, by other predators. And, one by one, they left. Either of their own accord, or they were taken away. Many lost sight of what was reality. Having gone insane, it became a hazard.
The program was cut. All the systems that they could find were destroyed. But, there were more. And those addicted to this found them. I was one of them, for I found out the one major drawback of the system. After a while, it became the only way you could dream. I needed it more than ever. It had become a crime though. The program, which had never had a name to those who'd used it, became known as a Mind Crime. Any caught using it were sentenced to a life in federal prison. But, it was legal in other countries, and that's where we fled. I'm currently in London, England. My friends are here. We've concocted a job. We'll use Mind Crime to learn secrets for people. We would be spies. Prying into the recesses of our victim's mind.
