T. H. E. M. A. R. I. O. N. E. T. T. E. Name: L. P. (Lou Pine) Remus Age: 40 (born Nov. 24, 1938) Gender: male Blood status: Pure Blood wizard, (werewolf) House: when he was in school he was Hufflepuff Year: N/A Currently a Professor of Wandmaking, and a Werewolf Liason for the Ministry of Magic Play-By: (include picture) David Tennant
Canon or Original? Original
Appearance: He's roughly 6 foot tall, about 160lbs with brown hair and eyes. When teaching he usually wears dark gray wool suit and academic robes and mortar board. When not teaching he he tends to wear dark pinstripe suits and converse Chuck Taylor's. Some times he wears brown hornrim glasses, which he doesn't really need but wears because he thinks it makes him look clever.
Wand Material: 8 inches Mountain Ash with a Thunderbird tail feather (crafted it himself) Wand Expertise: Expert wand maker, advanced dueler Patronus: Wolf Boggart: the Grim Reaper
Personality: Tends to have a bit of a manic personality, but can get very intense when concerned over something. He has accepted his being a werewolf with little fuss, seeing it as little more than an inconvenience three days out of the month.
Likes: * Reading Histories and muggle fiction on wizards * the outdoors, often goes on expeditions to find new and exotic materials for wands * experimenting with various methods and materials for wand making * Loves good music and a good party
Dislikes: ~ Werewolf sterotypes ~ Dark Wizards of any kind ~ Poor Craftsmanship ~ Disrespect towards other, be they magical, muggles, or creatures
Strengths: He has a talent for finding quality wandmaking materials, and and usually charm magical creatures into freely giving him the materials he requires for wand cores.
He doesn't let his Lycanthropy bother him often, it is just a part of him that can't be changed.
Weaknesses: Despite being really rather clever, Remus has a terrible memory, if he doesn't write things down in his diary/notebook.
He sometimes talks too freely about his werewolf condition, it tends to mark him as a dark wizard, rather than what he is.
History: Born in 1938 to a small pure blood wizarding family, Remus was the only child of Hadran and Augusta Remus. He was raised as a typical wizarding child, little to no contact with the Muggle world, when possible.
When he came of proper age he attended Hogwarts, where he was sorted into the Hufflepuff House. His motto was "Good food, good drink, good times,". His marks were fairly average, until Mr. Olivander paid the school a visit and pointed out, that should Remus' grades be high enough, he would consider taking him on as an Apprentice to learn the Wand Making trade. This was all the incentive Remus needed to turn around his school habits. He received his OWLs in Charms, Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures and Transfiguration. He later received his NEWTs in Charms and Transfiguration.
After leaving Hogwarts, Olivander did take Remus on as an Apprentice, often sending him to exotic locations to find specialized woods and wand cores. It was during one of the expeditions in the far north of Scotland that Remus was attacked by a werewolf. He was taken in by the Squibs John and Lawrence Talbot, who tended his injuries as best they could, once he was well enough to travel he was taken to Saint Mungo's. He spent two weeks in recovery before being released to return to his duties.
It was after the next full moon that it was learned that the werewolf curse had been passed to him; despite social stigma and pressure from those of influences, Olivander refused to dismiss Remus from his employ for being a werewolf.
There was a short time in which Olivander's saw a drop in wand sales, but recovered when Remus' wands started to sell. Many wizards were astonished at the power and quality of the wands, considering his werewolf handicap. After a time, no one even remembered that Remus was a werewolf working at Olivander's.
After 5 happy years working with Mr. Olivander, Remus decided it was time to strike out on his own, and opened a small shop in Hog's Mead. He has owned and Operated the Hog's Mead Quality Wand Sales and Repair Shop ever since.
About 1976 the Ministry of Magic approached Remus about acting as a go between, a liaison of sorts between the Ministry and the werewolf community. It has been very dangerous work, but he has been able to provide valuable information to the Ministry, to help them in the regulation and enforcement of magical laws, concerning werewolves.
1977, A representative of Hogwarts approached Remus about a small teaching position in the field of wand making. He immediately accepted a part time teaching position, so he could continue to manage his shop, and do his Ministry work. He hopes to find a student skilled, and trustworthy enough to help take up some of the work load at his shop, but so far there have been few candidates, and even fewer takers.
Sample Post: From Half-Blood Academy, Character - Jesse Monroe, Son of Oceanus
He was a dead man if mum ever found out, but something inside him just screamed that he had to do this, it was as if something deep within him was taking control of his actions, not something Jesse Monroe would ever care for. He just knew he had to go scuba diving at the reef, as if his very life depended on it or something. Telling his best mate Ruben that in order to let him use Ruben's diving gear, hadn't gone well. Ruben kept suggesting paying a visit to hospital, and that maybe Jesse had heat stroke, or swallowed too much sea water while he was out surfing, but Jesse wouldn't back down and finally Ruben relented.
The next day, the day before Jesse's 13th birthday, Ruben's brother drove them out to the Reef, no sooner had the truck been put into park, then Jesse was grabbing the gear and in the water. There was just something about the water that just made Jesse fell...well, right. He couldn't explain it, but it was true, it was almost like he was going home or something. He especially loved it right here at the Reef, he came to swim and snorkel as often as he could, that is when he wasn't trying to the next big wave surfing.
Jesse checked his mask and breathers, all good to go, with a wave and a thumbs up Jesse was gone beneath the wave. Something he had noticed over the years, was he never felt out of breath underwater as a lot of his mates did, he could also dive deeper and faster than anyone else could. The were always teasing him that he was part fish, or eel or something. He just shrugged it off and enjoyed himself.
Down down down he went, losing track of time, but yet strangely aware of his depth and bearings along the reef. Normally there were supposed to be some wicked currents along this stretch of the Reef this time of year, but for Jesse it was just a peaceful, gentle and calm ebb and flow of the oceans currents.
Deeper and deeper he went, getting a little nervous and concerned, he had never been down this deep before, hell he wasn't even sure it was supposed to be this deep at this position along the reef, and yet he could clearly see there was still a long way to go until he reached where he felt he needed to be. He closed his eyes and just kept descending, the next thing he knew his flippered feet touch down on the soft sandy seafloor. He opened his eyes in utter amazement; before him stood a massive coral palace that looked like it had been carved out of the living coral itself, or perhaps the coral had been created for the express purpose of building this place. The latter seemed the most likely to Jesse. At the center of the Palace's outer wall were two massive mosaics, made out of smooth polished seashells in the form of, what appeared to be a king and queen. The King towered over the Queen, easily standing at 100 feet tall, his upper body that of a strong muscular man with pale blue skin, a long flowing beard of various shade of gray, piercing blue-green eye, with massive bull horn coming out either side of his forehead, and a pearly crown upon his head, holding, what looked like some kind of snake-like sea monster in one hand like a whip, and a sword fish in the other. His lower half seemed extremely odd to Jesse, I mean even he had seen The Little Mermaid were merfolk had lower halves of fish or sharks, or something along those lines, this King had the lower half of and eel. The Queen, although a good 20 feet smaller was the same kind of mer-person with the upper half of a beautiful lady, and the lower half of an eel. The strange thing about her, was in stead of the King's bull horns, she had what looked like bird wings sprouting on either side of her head supporting her own pearly crown. Jesse stared at them for a few moments, feeling strangely at ease, his peaceful trance broken as two sturdy eel-bottomed mermen with harpoons swam up to him, easily towering over him at three times his size.
At first Jesse just wanted to bolt to the surface and forget everything his saw, but then he noticed the amused look in ther mermen's eyes, he wanted to demand "WHAT?!", but remember he still had the scuba breather in his mouth, this seemed to amuse the mermen even more, until a third even larger merman swam up shooting the others a stern look before turning to Jesse and bowing, as much as one could bow under water.
"Welcome Lord to the Undersea Palace of Oceanus, you have been expected, please, this way," The large Merman turned around and swam for the mosaics, which astounded Jesse by sliding sideways like the automatic doors in the super market, revealing a bright colorful, brilliantly light room that just seemed to fade back into infinity. Jesse did his best to keep up the the merman and not let his awe over whelm him. All around were merfolk, fish, sharks, and octopi, and countless other sea creatures that Jesse didn't even begin to have names for, yet he knew them perfectly well. The merman seemed to shrink until he was only about 10 foot high instead of 40 or 50, he bowed to two thrones at the end off the hall, which Jesse couldn't even begin to see.
"My Lord, My Lady, may I present his Lordship, Jesse Monroe," the merman bowed again and faded back into the crowd as if floating on a current, revealing the occupants of the thrones to be the very same from the mosaic doors outside.
"My Lord Jesse Monroe allow me to present Their Majesties Lord Oceanus and Lady Tethys, the Titan Rulers of the Sea,"
Jesse floated there all googly eyed in his scuba mask as he realized that the Titans as slowly fazed from their accustomed form into something more human. Oceanus' blue skin melting into a smooth deep tan, his massive gray beard and hair fading into an unruly mass of sun bleached blonde hair, he sat bare chested, wearing little more than a pair of baggy blue green board shorts, and a proud smile that seemed to light up the room.
"My son, you have no need for all of that here," Oceanus waved his hand and all the scuba gear disappeared, replaced with a pair of board shorts identical to the pair Oceanus was wearing.
"Along with my Lord Husband, I bid you welcome Jesse Monroe, Son of Oceanus. Welcome to your father's Palace," Jesse stared at the tan dark haired young woman wearing a bikini top, and some sort of silk looking skirt that was just wrapped around her waist, also offering a warm, almost motherly smile.
"It's a lot to take in, I know, especially when you have been ill prepared to accept that such things as Titans and Gods do indeed still exist. But like all things, in time you will learn to accept it as just another fact of life. My Boy, you have no idea how proud I am of you. You are the only child of either myself or my wife, to have found your way to our Palace before your 13th birthday, and being claimed as one of our children. Well done." The room erupted in applause as courtiers joined the Royal pair in welcoming their Bastard Prince. Oceanus nodded to Tethys who rose from her throne and beckoned for Jesse to come forward. He swam-walked forward without so much as a thought, reaching the dais in less than a blink of an eye.
Tethys smiled warmly placing a motherly hand on his shoulder, "In honor of your 13th birthday My Lord, your Father, and I would like to offer you these small gifts as tokens of our affection," she picked up a simple necklace with a circular pendant dangling from it, made of the same coral, seashell and pearl of the Palace. "This I give to you, so that no matter where you are in this world, you will always have a small piece of home with you," Jesse's cheeks flushed as she leaned down kissing him on the forehead then sitting back in her throne.
"Come here Son," Oceans beckoned as he stood, Jesse could feel all of his insides shaking as he floated into a kneeling position before his father. "My gift is much less sentimental, and much more practical," a servant swam forward bearing a very large oblong package handing it to Oceanus with the utmost care. "Stand my Son and receive the gift of Oceanus," Jesse stood, his eyes ready to bug out of their sockets as Oceanus reveal the most perfect surf board Jesse had ever seen. Oceanus gave a small smile at Jesse's reaction before continuing, "It isn't just any surf board mind you." he tapped it with a long finger and the surf board transformed into an 8 foot tall Harpoon shaped spear. "Learn, and use it well," He tapped hit again and it transformed into a sea shell bracelet and put it on Jesse's left wrist. "Now you will always have a weapon with you, and a surf board when you just need to sneak out," Jesse giggled a little realizing that his father was just as big of a surf fanatic as he was, for all Jesse knew, his dad may have invented the sport.
Oceanus waved his hand and another, smaller throne appeared, he sat and motioned for Jesse to sit as well. "Now, the day after your 13th birthday, you will receive a visit from a funny little man who says he is from the Half-Blood Academy in New York. He is in fact a Satyr, and you must go with him to the Academy. I have dispatched one of my servants to explain things to your mother and grandparents, so that they understand what is at stake here.
"After the satyr arrives, and you have said your good byes, go to the beach near your house, both of you step in the water, with your bags and our gifts and I shall transport you to the Academy. When you arrive you will be in the domain of a Sea God even more ancient than myself, you might say he invented the sea. Give him this, and tell him that you give it to him with my compliments," Oceanus reached into his pocket and drew out a sand dollar handing it to Jesse. "Now, I am afraid that is all of the time we have for now, we will be able to speak again soon," he waved his hand and the scuba gear returned. Oceanus winked at Jesse, "Keep the shorts they look good on you. Now good bye my son, until we meet again,"
The next thing Jesse knew he was speeding up to the surface in a mass of bubbles, faster than anything he had ever seen. He broke the surface not far from where he had gotten in and swam to shore.
"Find what you were looking for mate?"
"Yeah I think I did, and then some,"
